In Key Stage 3 we begin the adventure of enthusing our students with the creativity of Mathematics. We work closely with our partner primary schools to ensure that the transition from the Primary to Secondary sector is as smooth as possible so that the potential of our students is fully realised. It is our aim to ensure that all our students feel safe, valued members of the community where their happiness is one of our main priorities. All students are taught in sets throughout their time at Crickhowell High School, with the exception of the first few weeks in year 7 when they are taught in their mixed ability tutor groups while we learn more about them. We endeavour to place students in sets where the work is neither too challenging nor too easy for them, and in which the pace of delivery is appropriate. There are however many opportunities for students to move between sets and our internal tracking policies ensure that students are always placed in groups appropriate to their ability.
We implement both the National Curriculum and the Literacy and Numeracy Framework throughout Key Stage 3; our schemes of work are designed not only to meet the needs of each student but also to stretch each individual as far as they can go.
Milestone assessments are completed each half term and students have informative feedback relating to their current level along with an agreed action plan of what needs to take place in order for them to move up to the next level.
In Years 7, 8 and 9, all pupils will have 3 x 1 hour lessons each week
