Numeracy

The National Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) has been developed to help achieve our aim that the children of Wales are able to develop excellent literacy and numeracy skills during their time at school.

“Numeracy is an individual’s capacity to identify and understand the role that numbers plays in the world, to make well-founded judgements and to use and engage with numbers in ways that meet the needs of that individual’s life as a constructive, concerned and reflective citizen”. (Adapted from PISA)

The LNF covers the four strands of Numeracy: –

  • Using Data Skills
  • Using Measuring Skills
  • Using Number Skills
  • Developing Numerical Reasoning.

Click on the link LNF to access the framework along with exemplification of each strand.

All students at Crickhowell High School are encouraged to use and improve their numeracy skills. Each year group takes part in the numeracy challenge each week during a registration period, these challenges are differentiated across the year groups to reflect the growing numerical skills that our students are able to confidently use
