The Eisteddfod will include a Dance category this year and the Sports Hall will be available every lunchtime in the week beginning 23rd March for practicing.

Owen Phillips the School Rugby Officer has settled in well and is now delivering Rugby to all year groups in lessons, lunchtime practices and through after school training.  He is also making links with the Town Rugby Club and hopes to set up a junior section in the near future.

Canada Sports Tour

He has also brought a number of ideas to promote participation in sport including the introduction of an International Sport Tour. The sports tour including; Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Football and Dance, was launched in January and the deadline for the hand in of the deposit of £250 is February 25th at 2pm in B5.  One of the conditions of attendance on the tour is that participants must attend school sports practices.  This has led to an increase in our numbers at practices and we can now field both A and B teams in most of the sports we do.

Inter-School Fixtures and Tournaments

With the weather hopefully improving this term we will be able to resume inter-school fixtures.  We will post details of these fixtures as they arise throughout the term on the school web site and on Twitter.

Inter- House

The Inter-house Dodgeball was a huge success with students representing their houses in great style.

The Year 8 Dodgeball was won by Catwg and Pedr in joint first place and the Year 7 competition was won by Dewi.

This terms Inter-house competition will again be run by the sixth form volunteers and will involve Basketball this term.

This month’s curriculum changes

In their weekly games lessons, students in Year 7 and 8 and 9 will be finishing off Rugby and Dance and will be starting Volleyball and Tennis on the week beginning 9th March.

In Years 10 and 11, the options will be chosen in the first week and will continue until half term.

For your information, the full PE curriculum map is published on the school website on the PE page.

Extra-curricular Sports Clubs

Please note that we’ve moved some of our sports team practices from 1:30 start to 2pm start to enable the sixth form to run the inter house indoors.  (Also published on the school website).

extra curricular timetable 1

The extra-curricular timetable is a programme of lunchtime clubs and after school clubs that are run on a voluntary basis by staff and volunteers from the community.  All coaches have DBS (The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) have merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). CRB checks are now called DBS checks.).   We will try and give lots of notice if clubs are going to be cancelled, however, if there is a last minute cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances, students can complete homework or do some reading in the LRC if they’ve missed their transport home.
