On Friday, the 18th of February we will be having a non-uniform day across the Cluster Schools of Crickhowell to commemorate and celebrate the life of Dave Barry, Assistant Headteacher at Crickhowell High School who died suddenly before Christmas.
Dave worked incredibly hard throughout his career to qualify as a teacher after working in industry and then joining Crickhowell High School in 2006 on the Graduate Teacher Programme. He absolutely loved his work at Crickhowell and was an immense support to every aspect of school life, rising to the post of Head of ICT very quickly and totally refurbishing the schools’ ICT systems as well as ensuring that every student gained a qualification at GCSE ICT in Year nine. Dave went on to become Assistant Headteacher and then to spend some time on Secondment with the ERW Regional Consortium providing policy guidance and training on the Development of the New Curriculum across Wales.
Whilst he died terribly young at 54, he leaves behind him a wonderful legacy of a very positive commitment to education in Wales and ensuring successful futures for many students who have gone on to study ICT at university and beyond as a result of his teaching.
Dave supported the charity Centrepoint very strongly particularly wanting to ensure that no young person should be homeless. Therefore we have chosen this charity to honour his memory and we hope that you will be able to contribute as much as you can so that we can pass on the news to his Wife, Son and Daughter of how much money we have been able to raise.
