In preparation for the London 2012 Olympics we have been involved with a number of events in school to heighten pupils awareness of the Games. World Sport Day is designed to celebrate the athletes and cultures of the world. This is the final ‘GET SET’ event before the Games begin on Friday 27th July. As part of the celebrations on this day we are holding a Non Uniform Day where pupils will be asked to come to school dressed in sports kit. There will be a charge of £1 per pupil. The amount collected will be given to the Eco Committee to use for school based activities.
World Sport Day is part of the National Schools Sport Week 23rd – 29th June which celebrates PE, Sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Lots of free resources are available to help in planning events for this week and to create a Games Legacy in school by registering on line at: www.schoolsportweek.org
As mentioned above we have already heightened awareness of the Olympic Games, however I would be grateful if time could be found in one of your lessons during this week to take yet another look at the Olympic Games/World Cultures through your subject.
