This year Ellie Merriman was selected to play for the U17 Welsh netball squad and will be trialling again for them in September. She was also selected to represent Powys in the Welsh cross country championships.
Three months ago, Ellie also began playing basketball for a club. She was recently spotted by one of the Welsh coaches during a basketball tournament and will be trialling for the Welsh team in September. She currently plays for 2 netball teams, trains and plays for the Welsh U17 team, trains twice a week for basketball and plays on a monthly basis for her club. She works hard on her fitness and trains 5 / 6 times a week in the gym to maintain her fitness level.
Ben swims for Torfaen Dolphins, a performance swimming club based in Pontypool, where he trains 8 times a week. He’s done extremely well in all the Welsh national swimming competitions this year. His current rankings are as follows:
- 1st in Wales for the 200 m backstroke
- 2nd in Wales for the 100 m backstroke
- 2nd in Wales for the 1500 m freestyle
- 9th in the UK for the 1500 m freestyle
Ben is aiming to qualify for the Welsh skills squad in September this year.
