CHS Top Shots Set Their Sights Beyond County

Through their membership of the 1st Crickhowell & Llangattock Scout Troop, a number of Crickhowell High School students recently attained their “Master At Arms” Activity Badge.

In order to achieve this, scouts must complete the National Smallbore Rifle Association’s (NSRA) Youth Proficiency Scheme Diploma.

The criteria for this award includes attendance at multiple sessions of safety instruction, range and equipment familiarisation, practice shooting and the completion of a written knowledge assessment with a pass mark of 70%.

Individual grading is determined by the completion of twenty shots at four targets under competition conditions, with a maximum achievable score of 200 points and a base pass of 50 points.

The results are as follows:

Alice achieved a score of 194 with Henry attaining 196, the two highest competition scores in the County for their age group (10-14).  They were only beaten by one person in the 14-18 and 18-21 age groups.

At the end of each season, top shots in the area are invited to train and compete with both Welsh and UK teams, with a view to finding future Olympians.
