A-Level Results: Press Release

Crickhowell High School is once again celebrating excellent A-Level Results which are significantly above the All Wales and Powys Average. Over 200 students sat examinations at AS and A2 this summer in more than 30 courses with 100% pass rate at A* to E for our A2 students including a substantial increase in the numbers of higher grades being awarded.

At A2 15% of all grades awarded were at A*with 41% of grades A*/A, 64% A*/B and 87% A* – C. This success reflects the talent and hard work of our fantastic students and also the dedication of their teachers. More than 22% of our A2 students achieved A*/A in all their subjects.

More than 97% of our students who applied to University have gained entry to their first or insurance choice at higher education. Courses and destinations include Natural Science at Cambridge, Teaching at Worcester, Politics at Swansea, Medicine at Southampton, Archaeology at York and International Business with French at Bath to name just a few. Some students have been successful in gaining places on prestigious apprenticeship schemes.

AS results are also good this year and the retention rate to Year 13 is very high. The number of applications to join our Sixth Form is growing and as a result we are extending our sixth form offer with a wider range of courses available.

We are incredibly proud of all our Sixth Form students and appreciate that their excellent results reflect not only their dedication but also the considerable support of their parents and families. Whilst some students are going on to Oxford and Cambridge we also have a number of students with very particular additional learning needs who have achieved good passes in all their A levels and we are equally proud of their achievements .

Jackie Parker, Headteacher, said “It is a testament to all our wonderful students that they have done so well in achieving such remarkable success in very challenging examinations. Not only have they excelled academically but they have also impressed us with their personal development as well rounded young adults.

I have every confidence that they will go on to excel in their chosen careers and make a very positive difference in society.’
