Further Maths

A Level Further Maths is a challenging qualification, which both extends and deepens student knowledge and understanding beyond the standard A level Maths.  As well as studying new areas of pure maths, students study further applications in mechanics, statistics and decision maths.  If you’re planning to take a degree such as Engineering, Sciences, Computing, Finance or Economics, or perhaps Maths itself, you’ll benefit enormously from taking Further Maths.

Further Maths qualifications are highly regarded and are warmly welcomed by universities.  Students who take the subject are really demonstrating a strong commitment to their studies, as well as learning maths that is very useful for any Maths-rich degrees.  Some prestigious university courses require you to have a Further Maths qualification and others may adjust their grade requirements more favourably to students studying it.

The skills gained from studying a Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths (STEM) subject at A level or degree level are in demand by employers.  Graduates with STEM degrees earn on average 5% to 10% higher salaries than the mean for all graduates.  A wide range of STEM and non-STEM subjects are underpinned by Maths.  Having a broad mathematical knowledge and secure technical ability will help the transition from sixth-form to higher education.  Together with good mathematical skills, employers are looking for the ability to work in a team, communicate effectively and show initiative.
