Discuss the presentation of the swans in

‘Space Invaders’ by Owen Sheers.

• Explain briefly what the poem is about.
• Track through the poem line by line commenting on LANGUAGE and TECHNIQUE.  Look at the position of words for effect – eg at the beginning and end of lines
• Look at the VERSIFICATION – how many lines are there in each stanza? Why do you think this is? Where is the punctuation? What effect does this have?
• Discuss the TITLE.  How does it link to the ideas linked to the swans.
• Describe the effect of the poem on YOU and what you think Sheers might be saying about swans.. Nature… love.
